The 2019 Volvo XC40 is a small crossover SUV that will come as a plug-in hybrid and a fully electric model. The vehicle is based on a new architecture (Compact Modular Architecture) that will allow a battery-electric powertrain. Volvo has confirmed that the electric XC40 will be its second full EV to be produced, following on from a hatchback. This signals that the company is heading in the right direction toward the electric world.

This performance is backed up by a solid choice of four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines, all 2.0-litre units. Initially, there will be a choice of just two engines.

However, there will be a 187bhp turbo-diesel in the D4 or 247bhp petrol in the T5. While the D4 is capable of 55.4mpg average fuel economy at the pumps and 133g/km emissions, the flagship T5 can cover the 0 to 60mph sprint in 6.5 seconds and has a 140mph top speed.

The T5 delivers a brisk and engaging experience if you need high-end performance. The petrol motor is predictably that bit more refined but you’ll likely save more if you opt for the D4 variant thanks to its superior emissions and economy credentials

Globally, the gasoline lineup will include the T3, which rated at 156 horsepower, the T4 that’s good for 190 horses, and the T5, rated at a healthy 247 horsepower. The base engine is available exclusively with front-wheel drive, while the T4 and T5 feature an AWD system and an automatic gearbox.

The Volvo XC40 gets a power driver seat, heated front seats, and heated windscreen. An optional Xenium package is available across the range and brings a powered tilt and slide panoramic glass sunroof, a 360-degree surround view parking camera system, and Park Assist Pilot, which includes automatic parallel and 90- degree parking.
Other options include wireless mobile phone charging, Smartphone Integration -– which includes Android Auto and Apple Car Play, a powerful sound system that combines 13 speakers, advanced sound-processing software, and an output of 1,200 watts.

From Volvo: Safety and driver assistance features on the XC40 include Volvo Cars’ Pilot Assist system, City Safety, Run-off-Road protection and mitigation, Cross Traffic alert with brake support and the 360° Camera that helps drivers maneuver their car into tight parking spaces.

Moving over to equipment, the base Momentum trim comes with LED headlamps and 18-inch alloy wheels in white and black. Options include white roof and mirror caps, as well as larger wheels, up to 21 inches in size. Opt for the R-Design model and you get gloss black front grille and lower bumper sections, black roof and door mirrors, dual integrated exhaust pipes, and 18-inch diamond-cut wheels. Move higher in the lineup and the Inscription trim adds chrome exterior highlights for a more luxurious look.

Finally, there’s a higher spec Pro package that adds active bending headlamps with adaptive shadow technology that blocks out part of the beam to avoid dazzling vehicles in front across the board. The R-Design Pro gets 20-inch alloy wheels, while Inscription Pro gets a bespoke set of 19-inch wheels.

This way the brand will be able to penetrate the market and have a real potential for growth and the success of the concept.

According to Volvo, each product they make has a distinctive character. They have put much energy to come up with this new concept car. The car, which will use Volvo's Compact Modular Architecture (CMA) platform, will also borrow the 40-series nomenclature.

The 40.2 concept EV was revealed alongside the 40.1 concepts. The 40.1 has since entered production as the XC40. The 40.2 adopted a more sleek, four-door coupe design, but it otherwise tracked pretty close to its sibling when it came to size and design, including the use of plenty of rhombus-shaped details. The four-door concept hatch sat relatively high off the ground, inviting comparisons to crossovers.

The company revealed that the concept car will produce 600bhp and 1000Nm of torque. The concept car will be sold entirely online and will be limited to 500 models. Its engine allows the car to travel up to 150km (93miles) on pure electric power along the longest full electric range of any hybrid car on the market. Electric powertrain programs include a new compact Twin Engine plug-in hybrid, as well as a pure electric car, are the central focus to the CMA architecture

However, the car is a hybrid not all electric. The new EV will have a target range of about 310miles, considerably more than the concepts 217miles of driving range. Volvo will offer modular batteries with different ranges, along with different electric motors, to offer customers versions at different price points. The brand’s main goal is to address the broader population with cost-efficient solutions and then address a more premium segment with more motor power and longer range.

The company aims at having a long range of fully electric cars in large numbers by 2020, making a solid-state battery technology. Under the new Chinese regulations taking effect next year, mass production will be possible. With the joint venture between GAC and Toyota, they will be able to penetrate the market and continue making huge annual sales.

A rumor has it that the new long-range EV will be based on the C-HR SUV model. Sadly we have to wait longer for the company to release more information about the car.

Over the years, Subaru has been producing high performing cars and the hybrid won’t be any different. However, the company says they are yet to introduce a fully electric vehicle by 2021.

It has been a task for the engineers to fit in electric motor and a stack of batteries, retaining the car’s standard design. However, they were able to come up with the hybrid combined with two electric motors, a powerful battery pack and a full-time AWD system.

It’s safe to say that we expect a great product; given the fact, Subaru has a good reputation for producing cars that satisfy the buyer’s expectations.

The Skoda Vision E concept car is the first purely Electric vehicle in Skoda’s history. The sleek car is designed as a five-door SUV coupe which also meets the level 3 requirements for autonomous driving. The car is almost the exact size as the current Skoda Octavia. However, thanks to the electric drive, Vision E can offer a wider wheelbase that is completely flat on the floor without any central funnel. In addition to the excessive space, the car has two trunks, one at the back and the other at the front.

The front and rear wheel driving is suitably adjusted to ensure the highest degree of stability, dynamism and safely at all times. The electrification of Skoda's model range will begin as early as 2019 with the launch of a plug-in hybrid SUPERB. Skoda's first purely electric production model will be released shortly afterward in 2020. The Vision E ushers in a new step for Skoda, which will offer five all-electric models across the various segments by 2025.

Engine and Performance

The Vision E boasts 225kw of all electric power, using lithium-ion batteries pack. The engine provides instant acceleration to a top speed of 180kph (112mph) and uses two electric motors which drive all four wheels. The car is said that it will be able to travel up to 500km (310 miles) purely on electric power.


The Skoda Vision E has great road presence of 4,645mm long, 1550mm tall, and 1917mm wide. Thanks to the long wheelbase of 2850mm, as well as the short overhangs at the front and rear, the designers have created an extremely spacious interior. The most striking body features include counter-opening doors and the absence of a B-pillar.


Inside the car, it is fitted with a bright interior, four rotatable seats, and a missing central tunnel. The seats are slightly elevated and can rotate up to 20degrees. When the doors are open, the seats swing outwards, making it easier to get in or out. When the doors close, the seats return to their original position. The front seats can be reclined and the steering wheel is raised to provide maximum space utilization and comfort.
Every passenger seat has its own touch monitor that can control a range of comfort and entertainment features or display the car data. In addition, a compartment with a phone box for inductive charging of smartphones is integrated into all doors. The passengers can serve an interface that conveniently controls their phones on the touchscreen.

At the front, passengers will find large displays with top-notch graphics and the infotainment systems can be controlled by gestures or voice. Driver alerts and eye-tracking systems can detect dangerous levels of fatigue while driving and send warning signs to the driver. The heart rate monitor can automatically stop the car when health problems occur.

Skoda Vision E meets all level of requirements for autonomous driving, which means;

• Operate independently in traffic jams
• Independently search for free parking spaces
• Pack and leave parking spaces empty.

Skoda is yet to release its very first electric versions of a city car. There’s no specific date of release but the company says that it will be somewhere before the end of 2019. The automakers have confirmed that the compact Citigo will be able to cover 300km (186 miles).

The company has confirmed that indeed the electric Citigo will be based on Volkswagen group E-UP but with a significantly higher range. As part of the parent VW group, Skoda plans to launch 5 full electric cars by 2025. After the Citigo EV, future Skoda battery-powered cars will use VW Group's MEB platform that will also underpin VW brand's I.D. electric-car family. The company is yet to release more information soon.

Seat Mii electric car will launch in 2019. The automakers are yet to release the exact release date. More tests are conducted and little upgrades are taking place in preparation for the due date. The company is definitely headed in the right direction with future plans for producing more futuristic electric vehicles.

Mii electric car is burrowing some features of Skoda and Volkswagen UP. The three cars all have similar dimensions, engine options, and mechanical configurations.

The estimated performance features like an 81bhp electric motor with 210 Nm of torque and an 18.7 kilowatts lithium-ion battery pack giving the car a range of about 100miles. The automakers claim that the car will be able to accelerate from 0-60 mph in 12 seconds at a top speed of 80mph.

The electric vehicle is compatible with CCS 40kw system that can charge the battery up to 80% from zero to 80% in just 30 minutes. It can also use the AC charger at home or workplace using a socket which will take up to 9 hours to get fully charged.

The automakers claim that concept car will be light and well behaved for the city life. Mii will be able to carry out simple tasks like parking, maneuvering and nipping in and out of traffic.

The interior cabin is decent for its small dimensions. Luckily there is enough room for four passengers, though the back seat feels a little crowded and is not convenient for long travels. Most of the interior features are plastic (dashboard, pillars i.e.) and there is nothing impressive about it, but the bright colors to give it a warm polished look. The seat Mii does resemble the standard Fiat 500’s interior.

The company claims that the car will be a nice package with good technology, fun to drive and with a price range that will be considerate and appealing to the potential buyer.

The Taycan (previously called the Mission E) is an all-electric sports car on target for production. The four-door saloon format is described as a four plus one with space for luggage in the front and rear. Its driving position is almost identical to the 911.

Taycan is the first EV of the Porsche. The automakers are still hyping everyone about its first ever electric car. Porsche is currently testing the prototypes of the Taycan under different climatic changes to make sure the car will be able to function properly without any glitches.

Porsche is also making no secret of just how many Taycan it plans to produce and sell each year: The automaker says that according to current estimates, it projects 20,000 cars per year, which it notes represents about two-thirds of 911 production.

Given the Taycan's expected positioning and the appetite of the market, this is still a conservative figure -- this represents total estimated production for all world markets. The U.S., China, and Western Europe are expected to account for a big chunk of these 20,000 estimated units, but that's still not quite the instant electric revolution that some EV manufacturers had in mind.

The automakers had been tight-lipped about the estimated price range, but now they have revealed it will be going for $86000. With more upgrades and options, the price could go a little higher than the initial amount.

Engine and performance

The Taycan powertrain will develop over 600 horsepower via lithium-ion battery pack denser than what Tesla is offering. It is rated at 270kw. The car will have two electric motors, one in the front and the other in the back, which will provide an excited synchronous drive.

This powertrain will allow the Taycan production car to cover 0-62mph in under 3.5seconds and 0-124mph in under 12seconds hitting a top speed of 155mph. the target is for the Porsche to cover 310 miles on a single charge in just 4 minutes or almost 250 miles in 15minutes.

With the use of a cable charger, a distinction is made between alternating current (AC) charging with a conventional 400volts plug connection, with charging capacities of up to 22kw and DC of 350kw as chargers compatible with Porsche 800volts. The AC is used for the daily usage mainly at home or work, while DC is for fact charging on the go. The AC charger is permanently installed wall box or a socket.


Inside the cabin, directly above the drivers head, is a freestanding currently advanced digital instrument display as seen in the original concept. To the right is a small toggle-style gear selector for reverse, neutral and drive. A large infotainment screen, resembling the 10.1-inch unit used in the Audi vehicles.

A second touch screen sits in a slope center console separating the front seats, making the cabin have almost non-existing buttons. In the back, a recovered foot area was made possible by getting rid of the battery cells that were in that area to create more leg room.

Mini has officially revealed a fully electric version and is attractive. The concept car will be taking the shape of its predecessor the popular Mini hatchback. The MINI Countryman Plug-in Hybrid is a car designed to bring the best of both worlds together with its dual engine. Built with outdoor adventurers in mind, it helps you to tackle new terrain while emitting less.

The Mini E had a large battery pack taking up too much space turning it into a 2 seater. Good news, the new Mini electric concept is a four-seater with descent cabin space.

The futuristic concept car has a closed front grille, advance LED head and taillights, redesigned front fenders, modified rock panels, and new rear and front bumpers. The mini is painted with shiny reflective silver with a matte touch.

There are exterior accents added to give the final finish a futuristic look, on the front-end trim and lower body. The yellow bar will be a brand signature of it being an electric car. The closed design on the grille will signify an absence of petrol and diesel engines.

The powertrain technology will be revealed by the BMW i3, which means it’s safe to assume it will range about 150miles and an electric motor that turns out at least 150 horsepower when it hits the showrooms in 2019.
Mini already sells a plug-in hybrid version of it, which combines a 1.5-litre petrol engine with an electric motor for official CO2 emissions of 49g/km and an electric-only range of up to 26 miles.

The test mules are spotted undergoing cold weather testing, something that’s important for any Electric vehicle model given that batteries tend to be less efficient during the cold season.

The company promises a car that will be efficient and a breeze on the road. It is not yet confirmed but the mini concept car will be ranging approximately about 26000 pounds.

The car will have 2 battery electric packages, one will be powered solely by battery and another pair of battery with a newly developed range extended to make it possible to have multiple elect solution.

The company’s main focus is to make people’s lives better interaction between the car and the passengers. The link connectivity used will be an extension of the already present possibilities, reflecting results in future product development.

The new trends hopefully will bring connectivity, autonomy, sharing, and electrification to a whole new level, creating an opportunity to better possibilities with the new innovative cars. Mazda and Toyota have joined hands in developing budget friendly Electric Vehicle. Combining their resources they have a good chance to make an impact into this already crowded market.
