Smart Fortwo ED Hatchback

If you’re looking for the most compact, electric vehicle available on the market today, look no further than the Smart Fortwo ED.

Made for city streets, the Smart Fortwo ED is ambiguous about its range, much like other tiny electric vehicles. Smart said that the Fortwo ED will get 100 miles on its range, but more realistically, you’ll probably only see about 70 to 80 miles of range per charge because of the tiny 17.6 kWh battery pack.

Of course, there are benefits to having a smaller battery pack. Because of its size, the battery pack charges much more quickly than a large one. If you’re using a Level 2, 240v power source, you can get a full charge in 2.5 hours. This is much faster than using a Level 1, 120v power source, which will take 16.5 hours of charge time.

Unfortunately, there is no fast charging option available at this time for the battery pack.
Once again, the Smart Fortwo ED proves that it’s made for the city because of the minimal performance figures. The 55 kW electric motor is not meant for astonishing results, even with the 2094lbs of weight.

It takes 11.1 seconds to reach 60 miles per hour in this vehicle, however, the 118ft-lb of torque means that it is great all the way up to 30 miles per hour. This is important in a car like the Smart Fortwo ED because most likely, you won’t be driving over 60 miles per hour in the city.
If you do need to get on the freeway, however, you’ll be pleased to know that it can reach a top speed of an 81 miles per hour, so freeway driving is not impossible.

It has 3 doors and is a two-seater, so it wouldn’t be considered very roomy. However, Smart has done what it can to make use of the Fortwo ED’s limited space. Passengers have 45.9 cubic feet of room in the cabin, and the trunk is home to 9-12 cubic feet of storage if you want to fill it completely up to the ceiling.

Of course, there are other benefits to having a Smart Fortwo ED. For example, there is the Battery Assurance Plus program. You will be leasing the Fortwo Ed’s battery from Smart. This will cut down on the purchase price and means you don’t need to stress out about battery problems. Let Smart handle that for you.
